Desde Aefat, la asociaci\u00f3n de familias de afectados con ataxia telangiectasia en Espa\u00f1a, cofinanciamos un nuevo proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n relacionado con el c\u00e1ncer que se desarrollar\u00e1 durante dos a\u00f1os en el Hospital Peri\u00e1trico Bambino Ges\u00f9 de Roma<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Este nuevo proyecto, titulado \u201cEstudio de las c\u00e9lulas asesinas naturales en la patog\u00e9nesis A-T y sus implicaciones terap\u00e9uticas\u201d,<\/strong> est\u00e1 dirigido por la Dra. Margherita Doria y la Dra. Maria Giovanna Desimio<\/strong>. El objetivo es identificar alteraciones en las c\u00e9lulas inmunitarias de la sangre de personas con ataxia telangiectasia que puedan predecir el riesgo de c\u00e1ncer y dianas de nuevas inmunoterapias contra el c\u00e1ncer.<\/p>\n

El estudio analizar\u00e1 el fenotipo y la funci\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas asesinas naturales (NK) en la sangre de pacientes con A-T y en individuos sanos de control, y estudiar\u00e1 la presencia de factores de estr\u00e9s inmunomoduladores, inflamatorios y oxidativos. El proyecto podr\u00eda colaborar en la creaci\u00f3n de nuevos enfoques terap\u00e9uticos<\/strong> y estrategias innovadoras para alargar y mejorar la vida de los pacientes.<\/p>\n

Este proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n, iniciado y financiado en su mayor parte por la asociaci\u00f3n Action for A-T<\/a><\/strong> (Reino Unido), cuenta tambi\u00e9n con la cofinanciaci\u00f3n de A-T Society<\/a><\/strong> (tambi\u00e9n de Reino Unido), BrAshA-T<\/a><\/strong> (Australia) y Aefat<\/a><\/strong> (Espa\u00f1a). Todas estas asociaciones se unieron en 2020, junto con otras de diferentes pa\u00edses, para crear la A-T Global Alliance (www.cureat.org<\/a>)<\/strong> con el objetivo de reforzar la colaboraci\u00f3n internacional entre asociaciones de pacientes e impulsar la investigaci\u00f3n para encontrar una cura.<\/p>\n

SOBRE LA ATAXIA TELANGIECTASIA Y AEFAT<\/strong><\/h4>\n

La ataxia telangiectasia<\/strong> (A-T) es una enfermedad rara, gen\u00e9tica y neurodegenerativa que a\u00fan no tiene cura ni tratamiento. Provoca una grave discapacidad progresiva en ni\u00f1os y j\u00f3venes, y m\u00e1s probabilidad de c\u00e1ncer. Este nuevo proyecto que comienza ahora se centrar\u00e1 en esa relaci\u00f3n entre c\u00e1ncer y ataxia telangiectasia, ya que, debido a la misma mutaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica, los ni\u00f1os y j\u00f3venes afectados son m\u00e1s propensos a desarrollar leucemias o linfomas en su juventud, u otros tipos de tumores malignos a medida que crecen. La mayor sensibilidad de este tipo de pacientes a la quimioterapia\/radioterapia, provoca que no puedan recibir estos tratamientos y que el c\u00e1ncer se convierta en una de las causas de fallecimiento en afectados por esta enfermedad rara.<\/p>\n

Aefat sigue recaudando fondos para la investigaci\u00f3n de la ataxia telangiectasia<\/strong> en www.aefat.es\/dona<\/a>, y en la actualidad est\u00e1 cofinanciando cuatro proyectos m\u00e1s de investigaci\u00f3n<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Aefat naci\u00f3 como asociaci\u00f3n sin \u00e1nimo de lucro en 2009 y fue declarada de Utilidad P\u00fablica en 2014. Pertenece a FEDER (Federaci\u00f3n Espa\u00f1ola de Enfermedades Raras), FEDAES (Federaci\u00f3n de Ataxias de Espa\u00f1a) y la entidad internacional A-T Global Alliance (www.cureat.org<\/a>).<\/p>\n
